A Proven & Holistic Approach to Singing with Freedom
This online course is a 15-part introduction to the foundational principles of the Total Vocal Freedom approach.
Over the past 5 years nearly 1,000 singers from around the globe have participated in our programs and learned how to use TVF principles (based in part on the world-famous Alexander Technique) to improve the quality of their singing and performing.
During this course, you will do the same, building a solid foundation for lasting vocal freedom.
From the very first class, you will learn how to use TVF tools in your singing to help you reliably access a clear mind, a free body and your best voice.
These holistic tools show how the entire human system works together (mind, body, spirit, voice) and will therefore be quite helpful in the rest of your life as well.
This course is designed to be a practical and extremely user-friendly guide to freeing the human body (or: “Essential-Information-That-You-Probably-Didn’t-Learn-In-Your-Musical-Training!”).
With over 15 hours of valuable learning material this course will help you make deep and long-lasting positive changes in your singing, performing and life.
Singers, voice teachers & performers of ALL ages, genres & skill levels are welcome to join.
The only requirement is a desire to learn & grow!
What You’ll Learn
Here are some of the main themes we’ll be exploring together over our 3 weeks together:
Integrative Alexander Technique
F.M. Alexander made some remarkable discoveries about optimal human functioning. Learn how to skillfully integrate these discoveries into your singing and performing.
Less Fear, More Joy
Our students report that they experience less fear and more joy in their singing and performing by understanding and applying the principles you’ll learn in this course.
Even though it may not look this way, the freedom you seek is already available inside you. Learn the “keys” that will help unlock your inner freedom.
We are whole beings. Every part of us is connected to everything else. Recognizing this fact will have tremendous positive implications for your singing.
Quality of Movement = Quality of Sound
Singing is movement so the quality of our movement determines the quality of our sound. Learn how constructive thinking serves as the fuel for quality movement and healthy vocal sounds.
Posture & Alignment
Two necessary ingredients for healthy singing are a comfortable, natural singing posture and a well-aligned body. Learn the posture/alignment ideas that help and the ones that hurt.
Because of our upright bipedal nature, balance is a primary concern for human beings. Knowing the 6 main points of balance will help you create a sense of security and confidence in your body making it much easier to move and sing with freedom.
Learn a simple understanding of breathing, one that focuses on anatomical truths and the primary role of our thinking and overall body coordination in determining the quality of breathing.
Body-Mapping is a process by which we align our ideas of our body (which are sometimes inaccurate) with the actual truth of the design. The result? Greater freedom and ease.
Integrated Performing is about weaving together the inner and outer world of the performer into one unified experience, what Frank Pierce Jones called, “The Unified Field of Attention.” Integrated Performing creates the conditions for deep and impactful music-making.
Connection Over Perfection
We’ve found that when you make connection your primary concern (instead of perfection) the quality of the musical experience improves for everyone involved.

Feedback From Past Foundations Students
“Your three week course on the Alexander Technique exceeded my expectations!!”
The pace, the content, the delivery, the practical application without being there, the warmth, the professionalism….I could go on and on!! I looked forward to class each day and only had to miss two of them. I had only dabbled a bit in the Alexander Technique and this course was so very timely for me. Everything you taught was of use to me and I believe the big “ah ha’s” were the precise body mapping and how EVERYTHING works together all of the time. I knew bits and pieces of anatomy but certainly not to this degree. The third week of the course was especially good because of the application. Such a well designed course and the price was such a deal for all of us!! My hope is to attend a conference LIVE one day soon and continue exploring. I cannot think of anything to improve the course that you offered…just excellent!!”
Molly Huffman – Conductor, Singer
“My experience in the course was very positive…”
I feel very fortunate to have discovered this course in time to join. I had been looking for some type of professional development class, and had anticipated that it would have been more oriented to pedagogical topics. I was thrilled to find an introduction to the Alexander Technique, that was so immediately accessible and applicable to my singing, teaching and general well-being.”
Rachel Stoddard – Singer & Voice Teacher
“I appreciate how every instructor created a safe space for exploration…”
“…and how everyone in class supported one in another during our daily explorations. I loved the conversation about YES plans. I feel it can be so easy for us, as people, to be so critical of ourselves. We can spend so much time focusing on what we don’t want, what we don’t like and what isn’t good enough. By spending more time focusing on body awareness and allowing our body and mind to align with the YES in us, it resets a negative focus. It allows us to be one with ourselves. Having the opportunity to take this class brought me back to connecting with the oneness in me. I always felt much more centered, relaxed, and joyfully aware after every class. Thank You for this class. I know all of these tools will make me a better teacher and performer.”
Molly Rahe-Randall – Singer & Voice Teacher
“I was expecting to learn about body posture and alignment techniques in the Foundations course, but it offered so much more than that!”
“The course brought together a community of both singers and teachers in an affirming way to not only learn about how the body functions as a whole and how the every part of the body works together to support the movement of singing but how the mere act of thinking in a positive way can free up your singing! I finished each class feeling energized and excited put each nugget of information we received to use.”
