Ah, the start of a brand new year…
It’s fresh and untouched, like a newly unwrapped gift from time.
Looking at this blank slate, we say to ourselves:
“This year, I resolve to not to eat [fill in the blank here with something that probably tastes delicious!].”
But consider this startling statistic:
Only 8% of people actually keep their new year’s resolutions!
The luster of ‘new’ wears off quickly.
That’s why this year I’m not making any resolutions – instead I’m making renewals.
You hear about long-time married couples renewing their vows.
Or people that renew their faith in God.
I love this word – ‘renew’.
A few synonyms: return to, take up again, come back to.
I’m declaring 2017 a year of renewal.
I’m renewing the things in my life that are important to me but for various reasons have been neglected, forgotten or stepped over.
Perhaps you’ll do the same?
Here’s a good place to start, by asking yourself:
- What brings me the most joy and happiness?
- What do I love most about life?
- What are the most important relationships that I’d like to nurture?
- What commitments, vows, goals do I choose to renew?
Renewal is an opportunity to hit the refresh button without having to reinvent the wheel.
Renewal means rediscovering the original spark that inspired you to choose singing as a way of expressing yourself.
Renewal means making something that’s become old, whether it’s a dream, goal or idea, totally new again.
Simply remember what matters most to you…and renew it.
And then when the shine wears off, which it invariably does, renew it again.
Over and over.
So I wish to you a…
Happy Re-New Year!
